TAKE a trip to the cinema in the 1950s thanks to a well researched exhibition.

Vamos Young People’s Theatre has spent the last six months creating an exhibition especially for the people of Worcestershire and History to Performance at the Worcester Arts Workshop, Sansome Street, is the result.

The youth section of Worcester-based professional full mask theatre company Vamos Theatre tell the story of local cinema-going in the post-war decade and shows how the group makes theatre from the personal stories gathered while researching the project.

The group, who are aged 16 to 24, worked with historian Justin Hughes from the Hive to learn about the recording of oral history, and interviewed local people about their memories of cinema in the county, in particular those who worked there in the 1950s.

History to Performance runs until Thursday, June 26 and the group have created a theatrical and engaging experience so visitors can learn things and have some hands-on fun.

It features stories about those who worked and visited cinemas such as the Odeon in Worcester's Foregate Street, life as projectionist or usherette, and gives visitors the chance to try on masks and costumes, and contribute their own memories of going to the cinema.
