WEST Midlands Ambulance Service is gearing up for another potentially hectic evening as England prepare to face Uruguay in their second game of the World Cup.

Calls to the service rose significantly before, during and after last Saturday’s match against Italy, with the total number of incidents much higher than a normal Saturday night.

With tonight’s game due to kick off at 8pm the trust’s acting emergency services director Nathan Hudson said: “We will once again have additional crews and paramedics in rapid response vehicles in place around the region along with extra staff in the Emergency Operations Centres in Brierley Hill and Stafford.

“We all have our fingers crossed for the right result.

“All we’d ask is that ‘when’ that happens, people enjoy the moment sensibly.

“After all, there’s at least one more match to play.”
