A PASSIONATE and inspiring concert will mark the start of the Elgar Birthplace Museum’s First World War commemorations.

Some Corner of a Foreign Field presents an evening of words and music reflecting life in the trenches and Elgar’s wartime output as a composer from 7.30pm on Friday, July 4 at the visitor attraction in Lower Broadheath, near Worcester.

Museum director Cathy Sloan said: “The Great War of 1914-18 transformed the lives of all who lived through it, and great composers at home in England were not beyond its reach.

"Music of all kinds played an important role in lifting the spirits of the nation and this concert will include some of those well-known popular songs of the day.”

The evening will be led by Donald Hunt and friends, and tickets, including refreshments, are £8.50.
