A HORSE was stuck in the mud in Pershore for hours on Thursday morning before specialist crews were called in to rescue it.

The fire service were called at 9.01am to Defford Road, Pershore, where the brown horse was stuck in two foot of clay mud and a stream.

Specialist animal rescue and water rescue crews from Pershore assisted in the rescue, which took about an hour and ten minutes, using straps and mechanical equipment. 

The fire control service said the horse appeared to be healthy following the rescue but very muddy.

It was believed the horse had been stuck in the mud for a few hours before it was found and the emergency services were called.
