BEING friends with an award-winning clothes designer has its benefits, as one Malvern teenager found when she got to go to her school prom in a dress specially made for her.

Chase School student Laura Hazelwood, aged 16, wowed at the school's prom at The Pavilion in Worcester on Thursday, June 27 in a French satin dress made by her friend Edward Jones.

Laura's mum Lisa said her daughter had been friends with Edward - who was named Young Fashion Designer of the Year for the Midlands and North of England 2013 - since primary school, and he had spent almost a year making the dress.

"It's an absolute masterpiece," she said.

"Its French blue satin with a beaded lace bodice, with a full skirt.

“It's absolutely stunning - he's a very talented young man.

"I think she will wear it again.”

Edward, also aged 16, recently won a scholarship to attend RGS Worcester to study his A-Levels in September.

Give him some credit, no-one said the other girls didn't look lovely! This article is about this boys talent and he deserves the upmost of courtesy and respect for this beautiful dress. Looks to me like jealousy on these comments, people shouldn't comment things like 'I've seen better' as it damages the lads confidence. Rude people.

This makes me so proud to be local! Malvern is a town of craft and design; and that very pretty girl she looks lovely in that dress and I personally feel happy to see a young person happy to be in such a classic and elegant design instead of some of the shorter modern styles, it really paid of and she looks beautiful !

As for the talented young man who created this dress well his talent does not need narrating as the dress speaks for its self!!

I would just like to say that Laura looked absolutely stunning on the night, she was without a doubt deserving of the best dressed female of the Prom, Edward is a Laura Ashley Designer of the year, there is a reason why he deserved this, he makes amazing dresses, e.g. The dress Laura was wearing to prom, yes the other girls on the night looked stunning, but if you think that those dresses were all bought from shops, Laura's wasn't from a shop, it was made by a really talented young man who without a doubt deserves to be praised, and clearly has his future set.

The young girl looked like a lady and carried the dress of with grace. It's so refreshing to see such quality in a dress these days; instead of seeing mass produced dresses. I must say what a beautiful girl and very talented young man. God bless x

So yesterday right I posted this comment that related to pointing out that the dress looked amazing
Now I don't feel the need to talk about that, the reason for this is because it is becoming increasingly obvious that you people are posting these hurtful comments, not because you actually don't like this dress, I feel that you are writing these comments because you are trying to make yourself feel better about not being talented and therefore leading me to believe that you are just jealous of Ed's amazing talent,
Quite frankly unless you are going to comment something that is either nice or classed as a form of praise, don't comment anything at all

How sad that some people cannot be happy for a young lady who looks beautiful in a stunning dress made by a very talented young man with surely a glittering career ahead of him. If you can't say anything nice then say nothing. Well done to the lovely friends and ignore the spiteful comments. Amazing dress.

Simply not true and you **** well now it! its a stunning dress pulled of with elegance, and if by some unfortunate miracle you cant appreciate the elegance and grace of the dress then your incorrect and further more in the minority. if you do believe the dress to not as beautiful as everybody can see it is , then I suggest you have some form of sight issue or simply a shocking understanding of design and class for which I am slightly sympathetic towards you!

I feel this comment was made by you to be spiteful in which case I'm also sympathetic to you as being spiteful is a sad and desperate act! please don't feel the need to hurt people to make your self feel in some way better.

Quite obviously you haven't been out at all, because you have time to disrespect a special talent like Edward.
