POLICE are warning people to be aware of distraction burglaries after elderly victims were targeted in Worcester and Redditch.

Two men approached a house in Bromwich Road, Worcester, at about noon yesterday (Thursday) and told the man they could fix a missing tile on the roof.

They then asked if they could use the toilet and stole about £11,000 in cash from a tin in the bedroom wardrobe.

One of the men is described as white, in his 50s, about five foot five inches tall, of a large build with short dark hair. He was wearing a polo shirt with black sleeves and a black collar.

The second man is also described as white, aged about 40, slightly taller than the other man and well built with darker hair. He was wearing glasses and was smartly dressed.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday afternoon a man tapped on the elderly woman’s window in Eathorpe Close, Redditch, and asked if she would like some gardening work done.

She accepted, fetched her purse and placed it on the window ledge and the man then leaned through the window and removed an unknown amount of money from the purse before running off.

The man is described as 40 to 55 years of age, with a medium to stocky build wearing a cap and fluorescent orange tabard.

Police are urging the public to look out for elderly relatives, friends and neighbours following this incident and to report any suspicious activity to police.

Anyone who saw men of these descriptions acting suspiciously in the relevant areas, are asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 0208S or 0334S of Thursday 3 July.
