THERE were celebrations all around after a children's charity was named as the Most Outstanding Special Educational Activity Provider.

New Hope, based in Wells Road, Ronkswood, scooped the award during the What's On 2014 Junior Awards which took place at Drayton Manor, Tamworth, Staffordshire.

Founder Jean Wilson was also commended for her dedication to the charity in the Most Outstanding Community Group Volunteer For Children, Babies and Families.

Richard "Rik" Waddon, Paralympic silver medallist at London 2012 in road and track cycling and patron of The Hearts and Minds Charity, was on hand to give the award to Mrs Wilson.

New Hope works with disabled children and provides support for their parents and carers too.

It recently launched the Hands of Hope campaign asking people to take a picture of a smiley face drawn on their hands and text the picture, as well as a donation, to show support for disabled children being able to access leisure activities.

Already, the campaign has raised over £150 for charity.

Parents had gone online to vote for the charity in the What's On 4 2014 awards which celebrates activities, classes, volunteers and venues.

Pictures should be sent to New Hope's Facebook page or to its Twitter account @WorcsNewHope using the hashtag #HandsofHope.

To donate, text Hand79 £2 to 70070.
