Worcester News: Have a wild time at headquarters' hunt Have a wild time at headquarters' hunt

PEER into ponds, forage through flowers and spy under stones to discover how many species are at the headquarters of a wildlife charity.

Nature lovers can take part in BioBlitz at Worcestershire Wildlife Trust's Lower Smite Farm headquarters for 24 hours from 12pm on Saturday, July 19.

Dominique Cragg, the event organiser, explained “Our BioBlitz promises to be a really exciting event and it will be a great chance to explore the farm and get up close to many different species of wildlife.

“A BioBlitz is a brilliant opportunity for nature-lovers of all ages to hunt for wildlife alongside experts and enthusiasts.

"The event is carried out for a set length of time – ideally 24 hours – in a specific location and you don’t have to have any experience or identification skills to take part.

“It’s a really fun way of discovering wildlife you may never have seen before as well as increasing your knowledge.

"But it’s also a really important way of contributing to science – all sightings throughout the event will be recorded and submitted to the Worcestershire Biological Records Centre to help understand the distribution of our wildlife.”

Three of the farm's habitats will be explored – the garden, the pond and the orchard - and people can get involved with looking for everything from butterflies and bees to birds and dragonflies.

Experts will be on hand to help identify anything that is found and there are a series of talks during the evening in the run up to the night-time activities of star gazing and moth trapping.

Admission costs £3 for adults and £1.50 for children which covers all activities over the 24 hour period.

Visitors can come and go as they need to and all monies raised will go towards the conservation work of the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.
