GOLFERS raised £1,570 for a campaign raising money for a new machine treating prostate cancer patients with a charity day earlier this month.

The senior’s charity cup day at Worcester Golf and Country Club was held on Monday, July 7 in aid of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust’s Rory the Robot campaign.

The event saw 71 players tee up, with Robin Lowe walking away with the trophy.

Audi Worcester sponsored the event and prizes were donated by organisations including West Mercia Police, Worcester Warriors and St Peter’s Garden Centre.

Estate agent Andrew Grant also ran an auction for a day at the House of Lords and House of Commons donated by Lord Faulkner as well a bottle of champagne donated by Paul West.

Seniors captain David Simms said he was delighted by how much was raised.

“Prostate cancer surgery is clearly of interest to males of a certain age and I am so pleased so many members of the club helped us make this substantial contribution to this very worthwhile appeal,” he said.

The Rory the Robot campaign is aiming to raise £1.6 million for the new surgical machine, to be based at Redditch’s Alexandra Hospital.

The machine will allow surgeons to remove tumours with more precision and will reduce recovery times from up to 12 weeks to between three and four.
