A 'CARE village' in Worcester marked another milestone after the roof was completed.

A ceremony to mark the ‘topping out’ stage of Meadow Court in Ronkswood was held on Wednesday when directors from Fortis Living visited the site.

The £8 million development, which consists of 57 homes, is an Extra Care village which gives 'an holistic approach to accommodation for the over 55s'. The village will have 12 shared ownership properties and 45 for rent. Residents can also enjoy a cinema, café, hair dressers, hobbies rooms, and laundrette, all within the same building.

Fortis Living’s executive director of housing, care and communities Clare Huyton said: ”This is our first Extra Care scheme for Worcester and we are looking to build on the success of it’s sister development in Malvern, Clarence Park. There is huge demand for this type of retirement living in the city and we would encourage people to register their interest early on.”

Sion Rees, contract manager at Castle Oak, the developer for the scheme, said the scheme would create greater housing choice for older people.

Work began last November 2013. The scheme is due to be completed in early 2015 with show apartments opening in September.
