A WORCESTER schoolgirl is following in the ballet footsteps of dance star Darcy Bussell, CBE.

Holly Jenkins, aged 11, currently a pupil at the Royal Grammar School, The Grange, has been offered a place at the prestigious Royal Ballet School at White Lodge in London.

This is the former school of Miss Bussell, who became principal dancer at the Royal Ballet, at the very early aged of 20, in 1989, and is also well known as a panellist on the BBC hit show, Strictly Come Dancing.

Holly will board at the prestigious dance school from September, where she will balance her time between ballet and academic lessons.

Proud dad, Les Jenkins said: "Only 12 in the country are selected each year, so she has done very well. "

Holly started dancing at the age of three, when she attended the Harlequin Stage School where she progressed and won various national dancing competitions, including the 2013 All England Modern Dance Duet.

In 2011, Holly was chosen to be a Royal Ballet Junior Associate and attended the Royal Ballet in Birmingham. This year, she auditioned for the White Lodge School in London and was chosen one out of twelve from over 1200 dancers.

Holly said: “This is a dream come true to learn to be classically trained to dance, like her hero Darcy Bussell who attended the White Lodge School”.

Mum, Leanne Jenkins said: "It’s been all worthwhile, the hard work taking Holly to her dance lessons over these past years and see her achieve her goal and dance for the Royal Ballet”.
