Man given Crasbo after swearing and spitting at people in Worcester

A MAN known to police for being drunk and disorderly has been banned from drinking alcohol in public places.

Carl Bainbridge was handed a two-year Criminal Anti-Social Behaviour Order (Crasbo) after he was arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour at St Andrew's Gardens, Worcester, on Tuesday, June 24, where he was acting abusive to members of the public by swearing and spitting at them.

Before this incident led to the order being made, police had to deal with him in a number of drunk and disorderly complaints since he moved to the city at the start of the year.

The order bans the 29-year-old from consuming alcohol or being in possession of an open vessel containing alcohol in any designated place where consumption is prohibited by law, from using threatening, abusive, offensive, intimidating or disorderly words or behaviour within the sight or hearing of anyone not of the same household as himself, and from spitting or urinating in a public place.

Sergeant Carl Jones of the Cathedral Safer Neighbourhood Team, which covers the city centre, said: “I arrested Bainbridge myself for this offence of being drunk and disorderly. He was creating a disturbance in the Quay area at a time when people were down there enjoying the sunshine and lovely ambience of the location.

“Bainbridge was extremely drunk and constantly spitting. His language was dreadful and clearly causing offence to people at the location. We are not prepared to tolerate that. This Crasbo will empower us to prevent such behaviour.

“I would urge anyone enjoying our lovely, historic city centre to report such behaviour via the 101 number. I hope this case shows our determination to tackle offending of this nature.”

Bainbridge was given the Crasbo when he appeared at Worcester Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 20.
