BUILDING work is well underway at the former home of Worcester City FC.

The stadium in St George's Lane - home to the football team for 108 years - was demolished earlier this year to make way for about 80 new homes.

Although no one from Wembley-based developers Careys New Homes was available to comment, diggers and other heavy machinery has been at the site and it appears that full construction work is due to start imminently.

Some parts of the stadium - affectionately known by fans as The Lane - such as turnstiles and the entrance gate have been placed in storage in the hope that can be incorporated into a new ground.

The club, which is currently without a home to call its own and is in its second season playing at Kidderminster Harrier's Aggborough ground, is preparing to submit a planning application for a new stadium in Perdiswell.
