Getting a buzz from bees.

PERSHORE College is to host the Midlands and South Western Counties Convention of Beekeepers, from Friday, September 5 to Sunday, September 7.

Over 150 beekeepers are expected to attend, at the close of what has been a good spring and summer for swarms.

Martyn Cracknell, the County's Beekeeping President, said: "It promises to be a really good conference and a fitting end to what has been a pretty good beekeeping year. Colonies in general are healthy and strong, honey yields are satisfactory, and many good queens have been raised and have mated."

He added: "Perfect conditions for pollination in the spring has produced a bumper crop of nuts, seeds and fruits like hawthorn berries and sloes, to sustain wildlife through the winter."
