A WORCESTER schoolboy took advantage of his parent’s wedding reception to raise £160 for a campaign raising money for a breast cancer unit.

RGS The Grange pupil Matthew Powell of Dilmore Avenue, Fernhill Heath held a raffle at the event in aid of the Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign.

The enterprising 10-year-old and his friend Jacob Morgan-Iqbal persuaded guests at the event at the Pear Tree Inn in Smite on Saturday, August 30 to part with their hard-earned cash for the campaign, which is aiming to raise £1.8 million to build a new breast cancer unit at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

Raffle prizes were donated by Matthew himself as well as his Mum Lisa Greenlees and his aunts Lisa and Paula from Embrace boutique in Reindeer Court.

During the evening Matthew and Dad Nick Powell took over the DJ’s microphone to announce the winners and thank everyone who had chipped in.

Matthew said: “I had great fun doing the raffle.

“I knew people were putting loads of money in my bucket but I was really surprised that we raised so much money for the ladies who need it”.

The Worcestershire Breast Unit Campaign was launched in 2009 supported by the Worcester News and is aiming to raise enough to build a new unit at 220 Newtown Road.
