Wychavon District Council is inviting the people of Pershore with dementia to grab their cowboy boots and head out on September 6 for a barn dance with Alzheimer’s Society.

The event, to be held at Pershore Town Football Club, will kick off at 7.30pm with a bar and complimentary snacks.

Alzheimer’s Society Services Manager Gill Read said: "We wanted to hold a fun, family-friendly event for younger people with dementia that is also open to the community as there are many people with dementia who could benefit from this event.

"Events like this show that it is possible to live well with dementia and we all have a role to play in that by creating dementia friendly communities."

Alzheimer's Society community fundraiser Emily Woodward welcomed the decision to boost the charity with this knees-up event.

She said: "It’s great that Wychavon District Council is supporting Alzheimer’s Society. One in three people over 65 will develop dementia. It is more than just memory loss; it robs people of their lives and has a devastating impact on families and loved ones.

"As a charity, we rely on the generosity of others such as the District Council to help us continue our vital work so that Alzheimer's Society can continue leading the fight against dementia."
