A YOUNG man had to be cut free from a car after it crashed into a telegraph pole and a wall in Worcester early this morning.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) was called to the crash in Malvern Road at the junction with Kiedler Rise at about 4.20am and sent three ambulances as well as a critical care paramedic and a trauma doctor to the scene.

A WMAS spokesman said the team found four of the five men, who were all aged in their late teens and early 20s, were already out of the car, while the fifth was still inside in a semi-conscious state.

“The man in the car was immobilised and extricated from the vehicle with the assistance of the fire service,” he said.

“The casualty was treated for chest, back and shoulder injuries before being conveyed to hospital.

“A second man was treated for a head injury at the scene.

“He was also immobilised and taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

The other two men, described as “walking wounded”, were treated for minor injuries before also being taken to hospital.

All four men were taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The fifth man did not require any treatment by ambulance crews.

The pole was so badly damaged residents in the area are currently without phone or internet connection.
