JUST when you thought it was safe to go out, the dead will rise again to walk the streets of Worcester this October.

On Sunday, October 26 the Worcester Zombie Walk will see people dressed in their finest undead get up limping and groaning around the city centre.

The Worcester Zombie Walk was first set up in 2008 and last took place in 2012.

But a team of horror fans are working with original organisers, Andy and Tracey Monaghan, to re-animate the event in time for Halloween.

Amy Griffin, one of the event organisers, said: "A few of us thought it would be a great idea to bring the walk back to Worcester because it was great fun and really well attended. Last year there wasn't one because Andy had just opened his shop in Worcester and it is a lot to organise, so a few of us offered to help and it's gone from there.

"I think it will be good for Worcester. There are zombie walks nationwide but the walk was popular in Worcester and since we set up our Facebook group about it we had around 300 likes in the first few days. They are always good fun and this year we'll be fundraising for CLIC Sargent, which supports children and young people with cancer."

Ms Griffin said the walk will be the same as before and that 'zombies' can gather outside the Crown off Broad Street from midday, but she hopes to introduce some new twists to the event.

"We are hoping to have a sort of Simon Says section of the walk, where someone will be dressed as Simon Pegg in his role of Shaun from Shaun of the Dead, and the zombies will copy what he does. We hope to make wristbands or T-shirts too, as mementoes of the day.

"Although I'm a fan of the old school zombies, that shuffle but don't run, all zombies are invited to join in," she said.

Full details of the day are still being confirmed.
