A CAMPAIGN raising awareness of the struggles faced by those whose partners have suffered a miscarriage has been launched following a research project by a University of Worcester professor.

The Miscarriage Association’s Partners Too campaign is aiming to provide support to partners and advise to healthcare workers as well as raise awareness of the issue.

The campaign includes a section focusing on lesbian, bisexual and transsexual couples informed by research carried out by professor of psychology and social change at the University of Worcester Elizabeth Peel.

Dr Petra Boynton of University College London said she discovered a paper by Professor Peel on the topic of miscarriage and lesbian and bisexual women while carrying out research for the campaign and adapted the questionnaire she had used to carry out her research.

“Professor Peel was kind enough to share her research with us while we were developing a survey to get partners to tell us their stories, so we used a slightly adapted version to ask partners of all genders and sexualities to tell us about their loss,” she said.

The campaign has produced a new leaflet, videos and a number of online resources.

Dr Boynton said: “Professor Peel’s existing work really helped to underpin the project, and we are very grateful for her help and support.”
