SUNDAY morning may traditionally be a day of rest and worship for most churches across the country.

But parishioners at All Saints Church have decided to ditch the usual routine to join in with the fun at the Worcester City Run which will pass outside the church twice.

The 10k race would have made the normal Sunday worship a bit difficult for the church on Deansway so they have set about organising a colourful cheer zone instead.

Vicar Rich Johnson said everyone needed little persuading when the decision was taken to move the congregation outside and join in with the party.

He said: “When we heard that the run was looking like disrupting our regular Sunday morning habits we thought about it for about five seconds before unanimously deciding to get outside and add to the fun.

"Basically we’re all about Worcester and seeing this place thrive, and the community come alive, we generally jump at an excuse to throw another party.”

There will be orange balloons, pumping music, live race commentary as well as free coffee and doughnuts.

About 100 Paula Radcliffe masks have been made to celebrate the marathon world record holder's participation in the event.

Runners are set to pass the church twice between 9am to 11am with the biggest cheers being saved for members taking part in the run.

Curate Owen Gallacher said: “My main concern is that some of our congregation who are running in the race may actually overtake Paula [Radcliffe] due to our cheer zone efforts and that could be a little awkward.”
