THE threat of rain on Saturday failed to dampen the enthusiasm of local music fans who turned out for the second annual Malvern Jazz Weekend.

The centrepiece of the festival were the two gigs on Belle Vue Island in the town centre on Saturday afternoon, the first featuring local legend and seasoned veteran Trevor Emeny.

Trevor, who has played with greats including Tony Bennet and Cleo Laine, and his trio delighted the audience with their set, despite the showers.

And they were followed by the 18-piece Malvern Big Band, playing a dynamic range of modern jazz compositions, ad the clouds cleared and the sun started to shine.

Festival organiser Robin Miller said: "The evening gigs at cafes and pubs around town we're no less well attended, with some great-quality music.

"We hope to build on the success of this year's events, which have helped to both increase visitor numbers to the town, and add to the cultural life of Malvern.

"We are hoping to attract more venues to make the event even bigger, and bring on board more sponsors. We are immensely grateful to Malvern Hills District Council and the Friday Beer Company for their continued support."
