DESPITE Worcestershire featuring three times on a calendar depicting the Dull Men of Great Britain, the starring locals say their hobbies are far from boring.

Peter Willis, from the Northwick area of Worcester, Steve Wheeler, from Malvern, and Kevin Beresford, from Redditch, all feature on the calendar, which is due to be launched this month.

The men are all members of the Dull Men's Club, which began in New York in the 1980s and today boasts more than 5,000 members.

Mr Willis, who is Mr June on the calendar, has been on a mission since 2005 to photograph as many of Britain's post boxes as possible and has already snapped more than 2,500.

"It's a bit of fun really. Some people will find my passion dull, but some people find football really boring too, it's just an opinion," the former postman said.

"I took up photographing post boxes after having a bypass operation. Someone suggested I get myself a hobby, so I chose photography. When I went to buy my first camera the photographer gave me some advice — always include a bit of red in your pictures. Well you don't get much more red than a post box."

The 67-year-old said: "We have a ball. My hobby has taken my wife, Dianne, and I, to places good, bad and ugly. I think it's brilliant."

Steve Wheeler, who has spent more than 30 years collecting more than 20,000 milk bottles, is Mr April.

Mr Wheeler, who lives on Leigh Sinton Road, Malvern, said his love of the milk bottle began when he picked up his first specimens while out on walks in the countryside, and since then has built up his collection to include more than 2,500 from as far away as America, Pakistan and Australia.

The 66-year-old said: "I have no problems with being included in this calendar. I know the other guys featured and I think that we are all the absolute opposite of dull. We get out and do these things instead of sitting on our bums at home."

The calendar also features Kevin Beresford, from Redditch, who is president of the UK Roundabout Appreciation Society, as the face of January.

Mr Beresford, 62, spends his weekends travelling around the country photographing roundabouts.

Leland Carlson, assistant vice-president of the club, said: "It's all tongue-in-cheek. These 12 guys each have a passion and interest that keeps them occupied and I think it's great."
