THESE brave fundraisers will find themselves at the sharp end as they try to bend arrows against their throats for charity.

Sight Concern, which helps blind and partially-sighted people, has organised the firewalk and arrow bending to raise cash for its cause.

Fifty-one people have signed up for the walk across burning embers, with five planning to bend the arrows with their minds,

Fiona Blake, Sight Concern's fundraising manager, said: "In our previous firewalks we've had about 30 or 40 people so we were aiming to get more this time and we're thrilled to have such fantastic team support from local businesses.

"Because it's our fourth one we wanted to introduce something different and our trainer for the firewalk, Martin Murphy, came up with this suggestion."

Mrs Blake said the charity was hoping to raise more than £5,000.

This would be enough to fund half the cost of its gadgets room, where staff and volunteers provide one to one expert advice on equipment that can help solve some of the challenges of living with sight loss.

This can include simple talking clocks and watches to talking computer software.

Individuals or teams are still welcome for the event next Wednesday (October 29) at the Bank House Hotel, Bransford, from 6.30pm.

Mrs Blake encouraged spectators to attend the event, as it promises to be "an incredible spectacle".

Richard Elwell from Ethical Influence said: "This firewalk gives you the opportunity to challenge the strength of your mind, to do something counter-intuitive and prove you can do something previously outside your comfort zone, just as people have to do if they lose their vision."

Other attractions on the night will include a performance and drumming workshop, Halloween face painting and a fire juggler.

Children can bring along their carved pumpkins to enter a best pumpkin competition.

There will be food available to buy on the night.

Among people taking part in the firewalk are Sight Concern service users Shirley Sheridan, Francesca Sillitto and Lorraine Tomkins.

There is also a team of 10 from Southco led by managing director Pascal Testeil and a team of nine from Halls estate agent including managing partner Duncan Bedhall.

Five ophthalmology staff from the eye clinic at Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Rachel Sedgeley and friends from Kays Theatre Group,

and IT engineers Joe Allen and Aidan Plant from First Solution have also signed up.
