A YOUNG rapping hopeful from Worcester is one step away from performing at a national final.

Tudor Grange Academy student Finn Allen, 11, has progressed to the area finals of singing competition Open Mic UK.

He wowed the crowd and judging panel at the regional showcase and is just one great performance away from the national grand final.

Finn said: "I'm really happy.

"Before the performance I was nervous but after I got out on the stage I wasn't nervous any more and just did it."

There was plenty of support for Finn from friends and family, with banners bearing his name which he said was "really exciting".

Finn will put his own spin on Eminem classic Lose Yourself in his effort to get through the next round at the NEC on November 22.

The area final sees the top performers from the Midlands and the South West battling to progress.

Finn, who lives with his mum Sarah in Warndon, has been inspired by the likes of Macklemore, Rizzlekicks and Eminem.

He was encouraged to start rapping by his pal Olly Hoinville.

The youngster signed up for the competition, which aims to find an amateur star, as an insight into what he hopes will be a long and successful career.

Thousands of hopefuls entered Open Mic UK nationwide and the best unsigned singers from across the country were chosen to perform at the live regional final shows.

Finn performed in front of a capacity audience and professional judging panel at Birmingham's NEC earlier this month.

If he makes it to the national grand final, Finn will be fighting to win a £5,000 cash prize to spend on developing his act.

The area final will provide acts with the opportunity to impress many guests from the music and entertainment industry.

In recent years the grand final has seen representatives from three major record labels – Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group .
