WORCESTERSHIRE Animal Rescue Shelter (WARS) has been chosen as charity of the year by Nunnery Wood High School.
The shelter was picked after a whole school online vote, which saw 27 per cent of voters choose it.
It opened in 2001, 18 years after the charity was set up, in an enclosed field with views of the Malvern Hills.
WARS is home to 27 dogs in a purpose-built kennel block and a cattery unit with 12 pens.
Volunteers and staff from WARS visited the school with Alfie, a King Charles spaniel to tell Year 10 students what the charity does.
Students are now planning fundraising events from cakes to calendar sales that will take place throughout the year.
