SHOPPERS in Worcester can now get organised for the festive season and help charity at the same time by visiting a new store in the city.

A Cards for Good Causes pop-up shop, which sells Christmas cards in support of 25 national and four local charities, opened in Old St Martin’s Church, the Cornmarket, on Tuesday (October 21).

The store, which is staffed by a team of volunteers, will be open Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 3.30pm until Tuesday, December 16, with a wide selection of products including cards, gift tags, wrapping paper and advent calendars.

Sue Garfield, shop manageress, said: “The card shop generates vital funds for good causes and the charities often rely on the money they raise in this way.

“At the majority of retailers only a small percentage of the cost of a charity card actually goes to charity.

“But by visiting us about 75 per cent goes to charity so the good causes make much more and that is one the great things about shopping here.”

The four local charities being supported by the shop are Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, Friends of Worcester Cathedral, Friends of Worcestershire Royal Hospital and Cobalt, a medical charity in Cheltenham.
