SUNDAY is traditionally a day of rest, but one particular Sunday was anything but, as the dead rose again in Worcester.

Around 50 zombies rampaged through the city centre streets, putting the frighteners on shoppers as they paraded through on an aptly dark and gloomy day.

People dressed up in costumes inspired by Hollywood films, and scary home-made zombie costumes, to take part in the Worcester Zombie Walk- making its first return since 2012.

The mass of undead were trying to catch one man leading the group on the walk, dressed as Simon Pegg's character Shaun, in blockbuster hit "Shaun of the Dead" in a spin-off of the film, to raise money for children's charity CLIC Sargent.

Peter Kenrick, 24, who lives in the city centre, was one participant and was dressed in a blood-spattered army uniform.

He said: "This was great fun and I was more than happy to take part, loads of people were taking pictures and pointing at us which is what it's all about.

"I based my outfit on the army, as whenever there's zombies involved, they're never too far away.

"This is the first time I've done this, but I'll definitely do it again next year if it's on. I do like watching horror films, especially zombie based films, they're sometimes quite funny."

Organiser Amy Griffin said she was pleased with the attendance, and hopes it will return next year.

"This went splendidly well, and glad to see the public coming out. To be fair, zombies will always get attention.

"It's great to be back again, and hopefully we will be back next year too, as people still seem to enjoy doing this. What else is there to do on a Sunday other than dress up as a zombie?

"We really appreciate everyone coming out and taking pictures of us, and to everyone who took part."
