POSTERS are being given out to residents living in Wychavon who want a quiet night this Halloween.

People who don’t want to be spooked by trick or treat callers are advised to display the trick or treat poster prominently on their front door or in a window.

A message on the posters reads "We'd rather not have trick or treaters this Halloween. Please respect our choice - thank you."

Trick or treaters are asked to pay heed to this message and move on if they see one of the posters.

The specially designed posters also carry useful security advice for residents on the back, including:

• You have the right to say no to trick or treaters

• Always use your door chain when opening the door

• Do not let anyone in your house unless you are happy with their identity

• Do not deal with doorstep sales people unless you are sure that they are genuine

• Always ask for identification from official callers

• If you need goods or services, buy only from reputable suppliers or by recommendation

Dave Hemming, community safety manager at Wychavon District Council, said: "We want children to have fun on Halloween, but we know from experience that some people are nervous about answering their front door to strangers, particularly at night.

"These posters are a light hearted way to make sure that children get their treats from the houses that are happy to see them."

The poster is available at the community contact centres in Droitwich, Evesham and Pershore.

Residents can also download the posters from Wychavon Council’s website.
