TRYING not to get lost will be the biggest challenge facing a group of cyclists who set off from Gheluvelt Park for Gheluvelt in Belgium.

Leaving the park in Barbourne on Tuesday (October 28), the group of eight friends aim to be at the village for Friday, October 31 - the Centenary of the battle involving the Worcestershire Regiment.

They hope to raise £2,000 for Acorns Children's Hospice during the 286-mile Gheluvelt to Gheluvelt challenge and have already raised over £1,100.

Andrew Trickett, from Townsend Street, Barbourne, explained how the challenge came about.

The 33-year-old said: "I live near to the park so I was obviously aware it was named after the battle and as a history teacher I am naturally quite interested in history.

"As I started to find out more about the battle I realised I wanted to do something special to commemorate it.

"However, when I came up with the idea I hadn't done anything to do with cycling for a long time.

"I'd always been keen on sports and I'd ran a marathon the year before.

"At the moment it looks like the weather not going to be too much of a problem and five of us did a coast to coast cycle so we are prepared for it.

"The biggest challenge is probably going to be making sure we don't get lost.

"The last time when we did the cycle from Bridlington to Morecambe it was fully signposted but we still managed to get lost - it's a bit of an issue actually."
