THIS Halloween is set to be the biggest - and warmest - on record.

According to research by Tesco, this year people in the UK are estimated to have spent £350 million on Halloween costumes, pumpkins, sweets and other accessories.

And with temperatures predicted to be 21C in places it is also set to be the warmest on record.

The average October maximum temperature in England is 13.9C and for Wales 13C.

Tesco Halloween manager Serena Fleming said: “Halloween as a fun, party event has doubled in size over the last 10 years and as this one falls on a Friday it will be the biggest the UK has ever seen.

“And with the unseasonably warm and dry weather we believe many people will hold parties with festivities spilling out into gardens and BBQ cook outs around bonfires.

“Until the early noughties Halloween was still mainly celebrated as a kids’ party event and the greatest demand from customers was for trick or treating confectionery and maybe a few costumes and face masks.

“But the event has been adopted by adults as a great excuse for a party and as a result of them joining in the fun we’re seeing an annual rise in demand for costumes, masks and of course party food and drink."
