A COUPLE with a two-year-old son claim they are living in “appalling” conditions, after their flat was flooded from above.

Ashley Skyrme and Zoe Davies, of The Leys in Cradley, say they were left with crumbling walls, flaking wallpaper, damp and mould when their neighbour left the taps on and water seeped through the ceiling into their home.

The duo are calling on Fortis Living, which owns the social housing, to do more to solve the problems.

Mr Skyrme said: “I am angry and upset about the situation.

“The conditions are bad for our health, as both my partner and I have asthma, and we are worried about our son Matthew.

“We are even getting health visitors and our doctor involved.

“Maintenance staff have visited the flat and told us to air the building and open windows, but I am not happy.

“It is even more annoying because it wasn’t our fault.”

The 26-year-old added he wants Fortis Living to find a more permanent solution to the problem such as re-plastering the walls because the “disgusting” conditions are proving persistent.

Fortis Living confirmed that its maintenance staff visited the flat following the leak and advised Mr Skyrme that the property would need to be left to dry out before any re-decoration or repair could take place.

Further inspections took place on Wednesday, October 22, and Friday, October 31, revealing additional damp stains on the lounge ceiling which the company said had not been reported to its teams.

A spokeswoman for Fortis Living said: “Now that we are aware of this issue our maintenance inspector will be working with Fortis Property Care to identify and resolve the leak.

“We do depend on tenants to contact our free phone repairs line to report any problems in their home to enable us to rectify the problem.”
