A ROAD at a new housing development in Kidderminster has been named after a former town mayor.

Carter’s Gardens at David Wilson Homes’ The Oaks development has been named in memory of Peter Carter, Mayor of Kidderminster from 1996 to 1997 and who served as a Wyre Forest Councillor for 16 years. Mr Carter was born in Kidderminster in 1926 and had one son, John Carter, before passing away in 2012.

John Carter, who unveiled the name plaque along with his wife Pauline and other family members, said: “It was quite humbling to see my family name engraved on a sign which will stand in the ward my father represented for many years to come.

"I’m sure both he and my mother would be extremely proud.”

Councillor Marcus Hart, leader of Wyre Forest District Council, was also present at the unveiling.

He said: “I worked alongside Peter for two years and always found him to be a true gentleman who was very well respected by the local Sutton Park community.

"To name this road after Peter is a fitting tribute to his years of dedicated public service.”

Steve Barton, senior sales manager for David Wilson Homes Mercia, added: “Mr Carter played an extremely important role in the local community for a long time and we are pleased to be able to honour his memory in this way.

“We believe it’s important to consider the local area and its influences when building new homes and the choice of road names is just one way of doing this.”

Located on Sutton Park Road, The Oaks has a range of traditionally-styled five bedroom homes.
