TRAMPS nightclub has cut ties with a troubled promoter as the fallout to 'Will Smith' coming to Worcester continues.

The popular nightspot has ended its relationship with beleaguered Clique Worcester following online criticism.

Owner Dean Hill said the venue has been left with no choice but to "sever ties" after the backlash to Friday's event.

Flyers posted online by Clique ahead of the night stated a 'Top Secret A-List Celebrity Guest featuring in I Am Legend, Men In Black [and] The Pursuit of Happiness' was coming to the venue.

However, the man who attended has been widely derided as a lookalike of 46-year-old Mr Smith.

Despite Clique's Jonno Roberts suggesting the man who appeared was "100 per cent" the A-lister, Tramps has scrapped its association with the promoter.

Mr Hill, aged 41, admitted feeling "frustrated" about the saga.

He said: "We spoke to [Mr Roberts] yesterday and just felt the way forwards was to sever ties.

"There's been too much doubt, speculation and back and forth, so we decided it was just better this way.

"I don't want to put my name with a promoter that could mislead people and I don't want people doubting us.

"Tramps has been in Worcester since 1979 and I've been here for 24 years, and I pride myself on the reputation we have.

"When we put artists or acts on it's always them."

A letter seen by your Worcester News shows at least one person who attended the event has complained to Worcestershire Trading Standards on the grounds of false advertising.

Clique has defended itself against this claim in a statement posted on its Facebook page.

Dozens of students from the University of Worcester also attended the club night on Friday and the establishment's students' union is now making efforts to get refunds from Clique on their behalf.

A statement released by Worcester Students' Union on Facebook read: "Worcester Students' Union is now attempting to contact the promoter Jonno Roberts from Clique Promotions to request a full refund for all students that attended the event."

The event was held at Tramps, but was run by Clique - an external promoter.

Mr Roberts did not respond to a request for comment before we went to press.
