IT'S OFFICIAL - Will Smith didn't come to Worcester.

Rumours the A-list actor came to a city nightspot can be put to bed, after confirmation from a source close to the star.

Earlier this week, a promoter said he was "100 per cent sure" Mr Smith was at Tramps nightclub on Friday.

Facebook photos showed Mr Smith in Pittsburgh last week, where he is filming for a new movie 'Concussion'.

This undermines a statement made by Jonno Roberts from Clique on Monday: "Clique Worcester are completely confident that it was Will Smith and will be investigating further to confirm this for the customers on the day.

"I'm 100 per cent sure that it was Will Smith. I was up on the stage with him."

Social media users ridiculed Clique, the promoter behind the event, with dozens suggesting the man at the club was nothing more than a lookalike of 46-year-old Mr Smith.

Grace Stanley tweeted: "As if people actually think that was Will Smith in Tramps Worcester last night... Probably the last place on earth he'd be."

Jacob Landon posted on Twitter: "I've heard Elvis is gonna be in Tramps next week after Will Smith went down a storm."

Despite coming in for criticism from disgruntled punters, Mr Roberts pledged to provide photographic proof Mr Smith was present at some point this week.

However, he has not responded to requests for comment in the past two days.

A bizarre statement on Clique's Facebook suggested the man who turned up may have been "a cloned double" of the Hollywood superstar.

"Frustrated" Tramps owner Dean Hill has subsequently called time on the relationship with Clique, saying: "There's been too much doubt, speculation and back and forth, so we decided it was just better this way. "
