PERMISSION to convert a house in the Arboretum area of Worcester to a House of Multiple Occupancy (HMO) has been refused.
Landlord Sam Robinson of Fort Royal Lane recently applied to Worcester City Council to convert 12 Southfield Street to a HMO, which would allow him to rent it out to students or multiple, unconnected people.
But the council’s planning committee refused the application at a meeting on Thursday, November 13 as the two houses either side are already designated HMOs.
The decision was taken under a recently-introduced council planning policy intended working to prevent areas of the city from becoming too concentrated with HMOs.
