PATIENTS in Droitwich can find out about improvements to cancer services in Worcestershire next week.

The £23 million Worcestershire Oncology Centre at Worcestershire Royal Hospital is due to open to patients in January and will offer radiotherapy treatment in the county for the first time.

Lead cancer clinician at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust – which runs the Royal – Adel Makar will give a presentation on the new centre at a meeting organised by the Droitwich Spa Patient Participation Group on Friday, November 21.

Mr Makar said: “The presentation is a great opportunity for people to come along, find out more about cancer services and have their say on services including the new oncology centre.

“The new centre will provide state of the art radiotherapy services to county patients, ensuring more effective targeting of tumours that cause less damage to surrounding tissue and less risk of complications.

“This work will make Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust one of the county’s top cancer care providers and forms part of a wider Worcestershire Oncology Project which will ensure the vast majority of patients can receive their chemotherapy treatment within the county.”

The presentation will be held at Sacred Heart Parish Hall in Worcester Road. Doors open at 6pm with Mr Makar’s presentation due to start at 6.30pm.
