A CANCER patient from Worcester is giving something back to those who have supported her during her illness with a special fundraising auction.

Cheryl Dalton of Waterworks Road was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in August while on holiday in Germany and has now decided to raise cash to thank those treating people with the disease.

Miss Dalton, a self-employed footcare specialist, said she wanted to thank those treating and supporting people such as herself with ovarian, testicular and prostate cancer for their hard work helping them through their recovery.

“Because I’m self employed I can’t afford the time off for the operation so I keep deferring it – much to my consultant’s horror,” she said.

“But then I thought rather than it being about me I could make it for other people.”

The 47-year-old, along with her friend Amanda Stubbins, has now arranged the auction to be held from 3pm on Sunday, November 30 Old Rectifying House in North Parade, Worcester - which has agreed to donate 25 per cent of the bar takings during the event to Miss Dalton’s appeal.

Prizes include limited edition box sets of the first three Led Zeppelin albums signed by Worcestershire rock legend Robert Plant, a limited edition Graham Hick commemorative plate donated by Worcester cricketer Dormston Cook and a voucher for two to enjoy a day at Daylesford Cookery School in the Cotswolds.

Miss Dalton said money raised would be going towards Worcestershire Royal Hospital as well as St Richard’s Hospice specifically to be used for staff and volunteers to enjoy a day out.

“St Richard’s Hospice is such an amazing charity,” she said.

“In an ideal world we wouldn’t need hospices, but that’s not going to happen.

“The people they help get cared for so well, but what about the people who are caring for them?

“It’s a thankless job – they really deserve a day off.

“So I’m saying here’s some money – go and have some fun.”

Miss Dalton said putting next Sunday’s event together had helped her deal with her illness.

“It’s taken my mind off my problems,” she said.

“Doing a bit of good really helps.

“I’m learning to laugh about it rather than cry.”

Miss Dalton will also be exhibiting limited edition prints of her own artwork at the pub from Friday, November 21 until the following Sunday and said she was considering holding another fundraiser next year as she was conscious people may be under financial strain at this time of year.

Anyone unable to make next Sunday’s auction can submit sealed bids to by post to Mrs Stubbins at Sunny Spells, 75 Barborune Road, Worcester, WR1 1SB.
