THE sun shone as students from Bishop Perowne C of E College took to Brickfields Park to help make Worcester a greener place.

Children from year nine joined members of Worcester City Council’s cleaner and greener services team to plant London plane trees on Tuesday (November 18).

The activity formed part of the pupils’ ASDAN qualification and was also designed as an opportunity for them to work together and build confidence.

Captain Rick Tett, a church army community missioner and chaplain at the college, said: “It was great for the children to get out into the fresh air on a nice day.

“They really enjoy working outside and getting their hands dirty.

“This activity enables those within the school and outsiders to see that we are passionate about the environment we live in.

“It enables the young people to put something back into the work with other agencies and sustain the planet by planting these trees for future generations.

“It equally enhances the profile of the school in community engagement.”

Students from the school will also shortly be planting trees in Warndon Park.

The initiative has been supported by Worcester City Council and Trees for Cities, a charity which partners with communities to plant trees.
