A MAN in his 70s was punched in the face and kicked while on the ground in an unprovoked attack in Droitwich on Sunday.

The victim was walking along Fox Alley, between Vines Park and Vines Lane, at about 6.45pm on December 14 when he was approached by a black staffy type dog, which was off its lead and jumping up at him.

He asked the dog’s owner, a white man in his 30s, to put it on a lead, but he replied by punching him in the face. He fell to the floor and was kicked in the shoulder while on the ground, causing minor injuries.

The attacker was described as about six feet tall and of stocky build. He was wearing a woolly hat and a three-quarter length dark coloured coat.

The dog was described as a black staffy cross mastiff, about knee height and with a broad chest.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: “This is an unprovoked attack on an elderly male by a much younger male, which will not be tolerated in Droitwich.

“We are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or may have seen a man meeting this description in the area, to contact police.”
