A TWENTY-FOUR hour indoor rowing challenge has raised more than £4,500 for charity
The physical challenge was completed by students at King’s Worcester who worked in shifts to clock up a whopping 1,399,200 metres – the equivalent of rowing a single scull past Bordeaux in France in a day.
Funds raised will be donated to Cardiac Risk in the Young, Birmingham Children's Hospital and Headway.
Megan Glenn, boathouse manager at King’s Worcester, said: “It was such an incredible physical performance by all involved and the mental demands of the event at the end of a very tiring term made for an extraordinary challenge.
“Particularly for those seniors who committed to staying the entire 24 hours overcoming the fatigue to do another stint, at almost their limit, demonstrates the indomitable spirit that permeates the culture of rowing at King’s.”
The boathouse manager added her thanks to the charities, donors, parents for making food for the participants and the Friends of the Boat Club group for providing an afternoon tea.
“Thank you to all the staff who make such an undertaking possible - it really is the extra efforts of the staff which make the extraordinary experiences possible in our rowing programme”, she said.
A similar fundraising event is planned for 2015.
