ESTABLISHING a career as a professional writer can be very challenging, but a former University of Worcester graduate is on the right path.
Jake Crowley, 22, who studied English literary studies and screenwriting in Worcester, has recently finished a selection of short Gothic and ghost stories and a poem based on West Midlands myths and legends.
He is also volunteering with Writing West Midlands, an independent charity which runs the Write On! project, to help young authors develop their skills.
Mr Crowley said: “The Write On! squad is aimed at those aged 6-15. We do writing workshops and develop their skills.
“I help out at the Birmingham branch on the first Saturday of every month and find it very rewarding to be able to help other young authors.
“There is not enough creative writing taught in schools and colleges, so this club gives those interested in learning more, that extra opportunity.
“In addition I have had the opportunity to work with many professional writers, which has really helped to develop my own skills.
“I have always wanted to be a professional writer and going to university gave me the chance to expand my skills. The degree was fantastic.
“I am now looking to do a Masters in writing and hopefully one day to be a successful, published author.”
