A FIRST year computing student at the University of Worcester has received an award sponsored by the Worcester Association of Women Graduates (WAWG).

Irina Petrova received the Carol Pugh Award for the best presentation during a recent event, after judges selected her as the best entrant.

She will list the success on her CV and it will also be showcased in the university’s graduation ceremony brochure.

Pete Moody, head of the computing department at the University of Worcester, said: “Irina won because of the delivery of her presentation, the confidence she exhibited and the obvious preparation she had put into her work.

“She presented competently and clearly and the judges, who filmed each presentation and watched them back before selecting a winner, were impressed.”

The award is named after Carol Pugh, a former president of WAWG, who died 15 years ago.

Her husband and family attended the ceremony, which took place in the Charles Hastings Boardroom at the university’s city campus.

WAWG is a branch of the British Federation of Women Graduates.
