HEALTH bosses in Worcestershire have reiterated an appeal to people in the county to call NHS 111 rather than go to hospital if they are not in immediate danger.

With hospitals across the country still struggling under extreme pressure and seasonal illnesses such as flu and stomach bugs circulating, patients are being reminded A&E is often not the best option if they feel unwell.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day and offers free healthcare information and advice. The call handlers, who are supported by qualified nurses, are able to direct callers to the most appropriate service or offer advice where appropriate.

Urgent care lead for Worcestershire’s three Clinical Commissioning Groups Ruth Davoll said: “We ask the public to think before they go to A&E or call 999.

“These services need to be free to deal with real emergencies and should only be used in genuine emergency situations.

“Telephone services such as NHS111 are designed to offer answers, reassurance, advice and support you need as well as being convenient and open around the clock.”
