A PET owner in Stoulton, near Pershore, feared their dog had been taken in a drive-by snatch – before discovering it was an innocent misunderstanding.
The owner had been out walking three dogs in a field near their house when a white BMW saloon drove up, a man whistled and one of the dogs jumped into the vehicle.
The car drove off in the direction of the A44, leaving the owner worried the cocker spaniel might never be seen again.
West Mercia Police were informed of the incident but it was later revealed a neighbour had picked up the dog and the matter, which has not been classed as a crime, was a simple mix-up.
Lily, the 12-month-old white cocker spaniel with golden freckles, has been safely returned to the owner.
