A WORCESTERSHIRE GP has taken up a new role working to improve the care given to cancer patients in the county.

Elizabeth Seakins has been appointed as the new Macmillan GP facilitator for Worcestershire, a role involving working with all aspects of the health and social care to improve standards in cancer care.

Dr Seakins, who has worked as a GP in Worcestershire for ten years, said she was particularly keen to improve links between Macmillan and military personnel affected by cancer.

“I am looking forward to working with colleagues across Worcestershire to help ensure that people with cancer are diagnosed early to improve survival rates,” she said.

“To me being part of Macmillan means being part of a respected charity that is helping patients, their relatives, and healthcare professionals, to look after each other.”

Macmillan development manager Monica Burchell welcomed her appointment.

“She will be an excellent source of expertise and support for colleagues,” she said.

“We want people affected by cancer to have access to the best quality care and support no matter what stage they are at in their cancer journey.

“No one should face cancer alone.”
