PLANS to close one of Worcestershire’s two 24-hour Minor Injury Units overnight could get the go-ahead today (Thursday).

Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust – the organisation running community care in the county – has proposed closing the unit at Tenbury Community Hospital between 9pm and 9am seven days a week.

This would mean Worcestershire is left with only one 24-hour unit at Kidderminster Hospital

But figures have shown Tenbury Hospital sees an average of only six patients a day, and often none at all between 9pm and 9am, while the units in Malvern, Evesham and Bromsgrove treat between 22 and 27 daily.

The plans are due to be decided at a meeting of NHS South Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Group at Pershore Civic Centre in Queen Elizabeth Drive from 2.30pm today, Thursday, January 22. All are welcome.
