COMMUNITY groups are one again invited to bid for a share of hundreds of pounds.

Your Worcester News has teamed up with Worcester Lions Club to administer its Community Grant scheme.

The club has £1,500 to give away and is inviting community groups to bid for up to £300.

Previous recipients of the scheme have included Monday Night

Club, Guys Footprints, Asha Women’s Centre, Kaleidoscope, Worcestershire Pensioners Action Group, Good Soil Project, Aspie,

Worcestershire Parents and Carers Council, Hereford and Worcester Dyslexia Association, Friends of King George V Playing Fields, Art In Minds, Acton Mill Care Farm, St Paul’s Hostel, Worcester Opera and Drama Society, Oropharyngeal Cancer

Support Group and New Hope.

The money has gone towards funding a vast array of things from buying new books, chairs, gardening tools and even an electric piano to helping with the costs of running jewellery courses, hydro pool sessions, numeracy and literacy groups and helping with transport costs and summer play schemes.

Funding for the grants comes from the Lions' Christmas sleigh tour which takes Father Christmas around the streets of Worcester in early December.

Thanks to the generosity of those living in the areas that it visited along with the help given by various Scouts and Guides groups, West Midland Search and Rescue, Mercia Inshore Search and Rescue and other drivers the club collected £6,700.

Some of the money collected will be donated to the Scouts and Guides groups that have helped as well as to West Midland Search and Rescue and Mercia Inshore Search and Rescue.

The other drivers that helped and provided towing vehicles will be asked to name a charity that they would like a donation made to.
