A BOWLING club in North Worcestershire has received a £9,400 grant to refurbish its toilet facilities.

Stourport Bowling Green Club in Stourport has been handed the financial boost by Biffa Award, a multi-million pound fund that supports community and environmental projects across the UK as part of the Landfill Communities Fund.

The money will be used to refurbish the male and female toilets, which were installed more than 60 years ago, including the installation of cubicles and vanity units.

Denis Smith, trustee of Stourport Bowling Green Club, said:"The club is once again pleased to have the support of Biffa Award – this time to completely renovate the clubhouse toilet facilities.

“Improvements will benefit all members and visitors to the club which provides sport, recreation and friendship to the local community.”

The club, which was established in 1870, provides facilities for more than 120 current bowling members as well as the wider community through a variety of activities including line dancing, skittles and community celebrations.

Mel Jones, leader of the line dancing group, said: "I am very pleased that Biffa Award has awarded Stourport Bowling Green Club a grant which will enable it to refurbish the toilet facilities – a much needed improvement which will serve the club for many years to come.”

Gillian French, Biffa Award programme manager, added: “This project is an excellent example of how the Landfill Communities Fund can help develop local spaces for the community.

“We are pleased to be able to support the project at Stourport Bowling Green Club, as it improves the facilities for the whole community.”
