THE Bishop of Worcester was in attendance as the Church of England made history today.

Bishop John Inge attended the ordination of Reverend Libby Lane as Bishop of Stockport , as she became the first female Bishop in history.

Bishop John Inge posted on Twitter: "Exciting day for the Church of England - and for me. Just arriving in York for the ordination as bishop of Libby Lane. May God bless her."

He also posted: "Preparing for the ordination of Libby Lane at a wonderfully joyful celebration of God's overwhelmingly generous love in Jesus in York today."

The Diocese of Worcester was also represented by Bishop of Dudley Graham Usher and Canon of Worcester Cathedral Georgina Byrne, who is also the Dean of Women's Ministry for the Diocese of Worcester.

The move to appoint Libby Lane breaks five centuries of all-male leadership in church.
