POLICE are warning of a spate of telephone scams, in which it is claimed a person's computer has been hacked and needs protection.

The warning has come after Stephen Hornberger, Treasurer of Worcester City Neighbourhood Watch Association, personally received several calls of this nature.

Reportedly a male calls claiming that he works for Windows computers, to tell potential victims their computers have been hacked.

The scammer then asks for remote internet access to the victim's computer. From there, the scammers block the victim from using the device, and ask for payment in order for it to be able to be used again.

As well as this, once remote internet access is secured scammers could log into personal details such as banking details.

If you receive this sort of telephone call, put the telephone down, leave for several minutes to make sure the line has cleared and report it to Action Fraud on 0300 1232040 or by visiting actionfraud.police.uk
